Today, during the traditional Kings’ Day celebration at Mardi Gras World, Rex, the King of Carnival, by royal edict, proclaimed Mardi Gras 2024.
Rex Official James J. Reiss, III announced the King of Carnival’s proclamation and plans to visit “his beloved Capital City of New Orleans” to celebrate Mardi Gras. The theme of the 2024 Rex parade, The Two Worlds of Lafcadio Hearn, was revealed.
The 2024 Rex proclamation, by New Orleans artist and LPO musician Patti Adams was revealed. It contains a quote of Lafcadio Hearn that was printed in the Daily City Item in 1878. Motifs of Hearn's two lives in Japan and New Orleans adorn the sides. The ducal medals at the top are from the years that Hearn worked in New Orleans.
