Springtime Theme Highlights 2009 Rex Parade

Artists at the Rex Den are putting finishing touches on the 2009 Rex Procession, "Spirits of Spring." This colorful parade will leave the Den on its traditional route through the streets of New Orleans on Mardi Gras morning, February 24, 2009.

Ancient cultures looked forward to and celebrated the arrival of Spring after the dark days of winter, and this magical time inspired the creation of beautiful symbols of renewal and rebirth. Myths, Gods, Goddesses, legends, and celebrations all provide colorful material for Rex's 2009 Procession.

This optimistic theme of rebirth holds special meaning for a city in the midst of an unprecedented process of renewal. As in past years, students of all ages will have access to materials describing the "Spirits of Spring" Theme for use in their classrooms during the weeks before Mardi Gras. Hundreds of schools have participated in the "Rex in the Classroom" program over the past years. Further information can be found in the Education Area of the Rex website.
