Rex Den Will Host "Book Relief" Distribution

The Rex Den, where floats for next year's parade are under construction, will soon be the distribution site for more than 140,000 new books. "Book Relief," a hurricane relief project of the national First Book organization, will deliver more than 5 million books to areas affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The New Orleans distribution, beginning May 8, will be accomplished through a partnership with the Rex Organization, First Book, and the United States Coast Guard, which provides critical logistical and volunteer support.

Schools and organizations wishing to receive books must register online with the First Book National Book Bank in order to participate. Once registered, groups may apply to participate in this and other nearby book distributions. Registration and applications for the New Orleans distribution are being processed now.

Volunteers are also needed to help with book distribution at the Rex Den from Tuesday, May 8 through Thursday, May 11. Volunteers may contact the First Book National Book Bank at 202-393-1222, or by email at fbnbb@firstbook.org.
