New Orleans Plans for 2006 Mardi Gras

Although Hurricane Katrina and the floods which followed caused extensive damage and loss in New Orleans, the Mayor, City Council, police officials, the Mayor's Mardi Gras Coordinating Committee, and leaders of parading organizations have worked together to craft a plan for Mardi Gras 2006. Limitations on city resources, including a smaller police force, have been taken into account as parade routes and schedules have been developed.

Current plans call for a shortened parading season and a uniform parade route to ease demand on police and other resources. Parades will be held on just eight days, beginning on Saturday, February 18th, and culminating with parades on Mardi Gras, February 28th. As currently planned, all parades will use the same St. Charles Avenue parade route.
